Our purpose

In 1436, Johannes Gutenberg began building a machine to put the written word into every hand. He did not live to see it finish the job — nor did the centuries that followed.

The Paige Herald is a modest attempt to carry that work a little further: not with words alone this time, but with the things people actually need. A store of public record — every firm, every place, and in time every product on earth, arranged so that anyone, anywhere, can find it.

We believe the freedom to trade — to offer another person the dream of a better life in the form of something real — is among the most fundamental of human freedoms. It is how strangers who share no language, no politics and no fondness for one another still manage to build a common future.

Most of what the fortunate already enjoy, the rest of the world could too — if it were simply easier to reach. Making it easier to reach is the whole of our work.

We are the desk of this newspaper, the editors of a catalogue of dreams. Everything we publish is weighed against a single question:

Does this give the dream of a better life to one more person?

We are, in the older sense of the phrase, the bearer of good news.
